Demolished or destroyed.
The Monumental Arch of Palmyra, also known as the Arch of Triumph or the Arch of Septimius Severus, was a sandstone triumphal archway erected in the Syrian city of Tadmur during the 3rd century reign of the Roman emperor Septimius Severus. Built in the distinctive Palmyrena style that blended Roman and local architectural traditions, the structure stood as one of Palmyra's principal archaeological attractions until its deliberate destruction by ISIS in 2015. Much of its stonework has survived, and restoration efforts using anastylosis—the reassembly of original architectural elements—are planned to reconstruct the monument.
