The Ryan Center is an 8,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Kingston, Rhode Island, designed by HOK and completed in 2002 at a cost of $54 million. Built as a replacement for the outdated Keaney Gymnasium, the facility serves as home to the University of Rhode Island Rams basketball teams and is named for Thomas M. Ryan, Class of 1975 and former CEO of CVS Pharmacy, who was the lead benefactor. The building's distinctive design features three corner towers modeled after lighthouses, with the fourth corner anchoring it to the adjacent Tootell Physical Education Center. Seven luxury boxes offer views of both the basketball court and the neighboring Meade Stadium. The arena opened in June 2002, with the women's basketball team defeating Kent State 53–39 on November 22, followed four days later by the men's team's 73–71 overtime upset victory over USC. The facility enabled URI to consolidate all home games on campus for the first time since the 1970s.
