Located in Helsinki's Kamppi district, Sähkötalo (the Electricity Building) is the headquarters of HELEN, the city's municipal energy company, designed by Alvar Aalto and completed in 1973. The modernist structure is distinguished by its neon-lined window frames that slowly shift colour through the night. Since 2007, its ground floors have housed retail spaces connected to the adjacent Kamppi Center via an underground pedestrian tunnel beneath Fredrikinkatu. Both the building and its interior are protected under the city's planning regulations.
