Built in 1929–1930 in Portland, Oregon, the Salerno Apartments represent architect Carl L. Linde's refinement of the garden court apartment typology. Designed in the Mediterranean Revival style, the building features a courtyard conceived to evoke "a quiet street in an old Mediterranean town." Linde had experimented with similar court-type apartments in the nearby Sorrento Apartments (also 1929) before perfecting the form in the Salerno building. The structure was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
