The Sam Bell Maxey House, a large two-story residence in Paris, Lamar County, Texas, was built by Samuel Bell Maxey following his service as a major general in the Confederate Army. Constructed in the High Victorian Italianate style, the house served as the family home from 1868 to 1966. Maxey, a prominent local attorney, later represented Texas as a two-term U.S. senator. The dwelling was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1962 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. After restoration was completed in 1980, the house opened for public tours. It is now operated as the Sam Bell Maxey House State Historic Site under the Texas Historical Commission.
