The Samuel Osgood House, a Georgian structure located at the northeast corner of Pearl and Cherry streets in Manhattan, served as the first official presidential residence of the United States. George Washington occupied the house with his family, household staff, and enslaved people from April 23, 1789, to February 23, 1790, during New York City's tenure as the nation's capital. The building was demolished in 1856.
