Completed in 1936 on Washington Avenue in Schenectady, New York, this brown brick National Guard armory was designed by state architect William Haugaard as a striking architectural hybrid. The exterior displays Art Deco styling, while the interior employs Tudorbethan design, creating a distinctive blend of modernist and period revival elements. Originally home to two units of the New York Army National Guard, the building remained in military service until its closure in 2008. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, the armory survives largely intact and has since been converted into the Armory Studios NY soundstage and entertainment complex.
