Sevanavank is an Armenian monastic complex situated on a peninsula at the northwestern shore of Lake Sevan in Gegharkunik Province, Armenia. Originally constructed in the 4th century on a small island in the lake's southern waters, the monastery's setting was dramatically altered during the Soviet era when artificial drainage of Lake Sevan lowered the water level by approximately 20 metres, transforming the island into a peninsula. This topographical change increased accessibility and visitor traffic, making Sevanavank one of Armenia's most visited tourist destinations. The site now comprises the historic monastery buildings, a seminary that relocated to newly constructed structures on the peninsula's northern shore, a Writers Union guesthouse on the southern shore, and the Armenian president's summer residence on the eastern shore.
