Silver Spring station, completed in 1978 in Montgomery County, Maryland, is a brutalist transit hub serving the Washington Metro's Red Line and MARC's Brunswick Line commuter rail. Located at the intersection of Colesville Road and East-West Highway, the station ranks as the 19th-busiest stop in the Metro system and Maryland's busiest, averaging over 4,500 daily riders in 2023. The elevated and surface-level facility primarily serves the populous suburb of Silver Spring and connects passengers heading south toward Washington, D.C., or north deeper into Montgomery County. Bus service through the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center complements rail access, and the station is slated to become part of the Purple Line light rail system currently under construction.
