Solvay Castle, located in La Hulpe in Walloon Brabant, Belgium, is a grand château completed in the 1840s for the Marquis Maximilien de Béthune as an imposing manor house on the outskirts of Brussels. Originally built in Flemish neo-Renaissance style, the estate was purchased in 1893 by industrialist Ernest Solvay, who extensively remodeled the castle to a more elegant appearance and redesigned its surroundings with a French formal garden. The sprawling property, comprising over 220 hectares, combines a cultivated French garden with English-themed grounds featuring rhododendrons, azaleas, ancient redwoods, and oak trees, all arranged around a broad lake with planned walkways and vantage points. Donated to the Regional Government of Wallonia in 1968 for educational purposes, the park now hosts the Fondation Folon museum (established 2000), an equestrian center serving disabled visitors, and various cultural events throughout the year.
