Completed in 1912, the Spokane City Hall Building stands as a Chicago School structure designed by German-born architect Julius Zittel. The building served as Spokane's municipal seat until 1982, when city offices relocated to a converted Montgomery Ward department store. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, the building survived a pipe bombing in 1996 by white supremacist terrorists, which caused damage but no casualties.
