Schenectady City Hall, completed between 1931 and 1933, is a neoclassical government building designed by the prominent firm McKim, Mead & White. Located on the block bounded by Clinton, Franklin, Jay, and Liberty streets, it revives the Federal Style that dominated American architecture from 1780 to 1830. The building's most striking features are its square clock tower crowned with a gold-leaf dome and weathervane, and an Ionic neoclassical portico. Its classically inspired vocabulary echoes the arched windows of the nearby post office, constructed two decades earlier. Both structures were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
