St George's Church in Heaviley, Stockport, stands on Buxton Road as an Anglican parish church completed in 1896 to a design by architect Hubert Austin. Blending Art Nouveau and Gothic Revival styles, the building is recorded as Grade I listed and has drawn considerable architectural praise: the *Buildings of England* series calls it "by far the grandest church of Stockport," while Geoffrey Fisher, former Archbishop of Canterbury, reportedly deemed it "the finest church built in England since the Reformation." The church remains active, with its benefice united to that of St Gabriel, Adswood, within the diocese of Chester.
