Built in 1939 for the Signal Oil Company in Portland's St. Johns neighborhood, this Moderne-style gas station exemplifies streamlined commercial design of the pre-war era. Operating continuously as a fuel stop under various brands—Signal Gas, Hellman's Golden Eagle, and Chevron—until 1984, the station then underwent successive transformations, serving as a florist shop before being converted into Signal Station Pizza restaurant in 2006, a use it maintains today. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003, preserving its significance as a surviving example of mid-twentieth-century automotive commercial architecture.
