St. Mary's Cathedral in Hamburg was a brick Gothic cathedral built beginning in 1245 that served as the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hamburg, itself merged in personal union with the Diocese of Bremen since 847 and later in real union to form the Archdiocese of Hamburg-Bremen in 1027. By 1180, the cathedral compound had become a cathedral immunity district exempt from municipal jurisdiction. Following the Reformation, the cathedral was converted into a Lutheran church. After Hamburg seized the cathedral immunity district in 1803, the city demolished the structure between 1804 and 1807.
