St Mary's Church in West Chiltington, a village in the Horsham district of West Sussex, is a Grade I listed Norman structure begun in 1101 that stands as what has been described as a "showpiece" of the Wealden village. The 12th-century building retains numerous features of historical and architectural significance, including an exceptionally long hagioscope—or squint—running from the south aisle into the chancel, a porch that may rank among Sussex's oldest, and a well-preserved and extensive scheme of wall paintings. Its distinctive appearance has drawn comparison to a French village church, conferring upon it an unexpected charm within its English setting.
