St Paul's Cathedral is an English Baroque Anglican cathedral in London, designed by Sir Christopher Wren and completed in 1710. Located on Ludgate Hill at the highest point of the City of London, the cathedral was built in Portland limestone as part of the major reconstruction following the Great Fire of London, which had destroyed the earlier Gothic structure. Its most defining feature is the high dome, which at 111 metres tall dominated London's skyline for over 250 years and remains one of the world's highest. A Grade I listed building, St Paul's has hosted some of Britain's most significant state occasions, including the funerals of Nelson, Wellington, and Churchill, the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana, and services marking both world wars. The cathedral stands as the seat of the Bishop of London and the mother church of the Diocese of London in the Church of England, continuing the tradition of a church dedicated to Paul the Apostle on this site since AD 604.
