At the intersection of 12th Avenue and Granville Street in Vancouver stands the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage, an Art Deco theatre that first opened as a cinema in December 1930. After more than sixty years showing films, declining revenues forced its closure in 1991. The building faced the threat of commercial demolition until a comprehensive renovation between 1997 and 1998 restored it as a stage theatre and secured its designation as a heritage building. Now home to the Arts Club Theatre Company, the Stanley has hosted major productions ranging from Broadway musicals such as *My Fair Lady* and *Miss Saigon* to Disney's *Beauty and the Beast*. The theatre's sponsorship has evolved since its renovation, currently bearing the name of Industrial Alliance Pacific Life Insurance Company, which became its principal supporter in 2005.
