The State Opera Stara Zagora is Bulgaria's oldest opera theatre outside Sofia, founded in 1925 and second only to the National Opera and Ballet in the capital. Its current theatre building, inaugurated in 1971, holds the distinction of being the first structure in Bulgaria constructed specifically for opera. The company presents a diverse repertory encompassing opera, ballet, operetta, musical theatre, children's productions, and concerts, while also organizing the Festival of Opera and Ballet Arts in Stara Zagora, a longstanding specialized forum for these art forms in the country.
