The Strand Theatre stands at 345 Main Street in downtown Rockland, Maine, a striking survivor of the Egyptian Revival style. Built in 1923 following a fire that damaged the downtown area, it represents a rare architectural expression of the Egyptomania that captivated American theater design in the 1920s. Of three theaters constructed in Rockland during this period, it alone endures. Now operated by a non-profit organization, the venue continues its original purpose as a performing arts space, hosting films, musical performances, and theatrical productions. It was recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.
