Tartu Cathedral, a brick Gothic structure begun in 1300, stands as an imposing ruin in Tartu, Estonia, overlooking the lower town. Once a Catholic church known in German as the Dorpater Domkirche, the cathedral exemplifies the Brick Gothic style characteristic of medieval Baltic architecture. Though largely ruined, approximately one-third of the building has undergone restoration; this renovated section now houses the University of Tartu's museum and serves as a venue for the university's major receptions, preserving the structure's cultural significance while maintaining its status as an architectural monument.
