Located adjacent to the main University of Tehran campus in District 6, Tehran University of Medical Sciences is a public medical institution with roots tracing to 1851, when it was founded as part of Dar ol-Fonoon. After absorption into the University of Tehran in 1934, it remained integrated until 1986, when parliamentary legislation established it as an independent university under the new Ministry of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education. The campus, built in concrete in the Pahlavi architectural style, reflects the design sensibilities of its 1986 inception and holds status as a recognized Iranian National Heritage site. Beyond its academic mission, the university operates The National Museum of Medical Sciences History.
