The Terminal Sales Building in Portland, Oregon, completed in 1927, is the city's only high-rise example of Art Deco architecture. Designed under architect A. E. Doyle—who oversaw the project so meticulously that he directed his draftsman Wilfred Frank Higgins even while traveling in Europe, sending wired instructions on details such as paint specifications—the 155-foot, 13-story structure represents one of Portland's few prominent Art Deco landmarks. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991, it stands as a testament to both the architectural ambitions of its era and Doyle's exacting design standards.
