The Judson is a three-story brick apartment building completed in 1911 on Judson Avenue in Evanston, Illinois, designed by architect Francis M. Barton in the Prairie School style. Containing eighteen residential units, the building displays characteristic Prairie School ornamental details including segmental arched entrances, egg-and-dart decoration, patterned brickwork with horizontal themes, and overhanging bracketed eaves. Its design proved contentious for departing from Prairie School principles by eliminating the front setback and green space typical of the movement, instead rising directly from the sidewalk—a choice that prompted prominent Evanston architect Thomas Tallmadge to criticize it in *The American Architecture* as "equally oblivious to the rights of neighbors and to the principles of good design." The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
