The Fazl Mosque, also known as The London Mosque, stands in Southfields, Wandsworth, as London's first purpose-built mosque. Designed by architect Thomas Hayton Mawson and completed in 1926, the building was constructed at a cost of £6,223, funded entirely by donations from Ahmadi Muslim women in Qadian, Punjab, British India. Opened on 3 October 1926, the mosque represents a significant milestone in British Islamic architecture. Between 1984 and 2019, it served as the residence of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community's caliphs and functioned as their de facto international headquarters before the administrative centre relocated to Tilford. Now Grade II listed, the building exemplifies early twentieth-century Islamic architectural design in Britain.
