The Thomas E. Keys Residence in Rochester, Minnesota is a Usonian house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1950, representing his vision of refined, affordable architecture for middle-class families. Constructed of concrete block built into earth berms, the home employs Wright's characteristic four-foot square module and originally contained three bedrooms and one bathroom. The design draws from an earlier Wright plan for a Detroit cooperative that was abandoned following World War II's onset. In 1970, architect and former Wright apprentice John H. Howe modified the structure by converting its carport into a guest bedroom and bathroom. The residence stands on Skyline Drive in proximity to two additional Wright-designed homes, the A. H. Bulbulian and James McBean residences.
