Thornton is a historic family farm near Chestertown in Kent County, Maryland, centered on a Georgian-style brick house built around 1788. The main residence is two-and-a-half stories with five bays, featuring a one-and-a-half-story kitchen wing attached to its west gable end. Situated on 352 acres along Morgan's Creek, a tributary of the Chester River, the property also includes period agricultural structures—a smokehouse, granary from the second half of the nineteenth century, late-nineteenth-century animal barn, early-twentieth-century dairy barn, and two sheds. The estate has remained in the same family for nearly three centuries, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
