Located in Wakabayashi ward, Sendai, the Tōmizuka Kofun is a keyhole-shaped burial mound constructed during the early to middle Kofun period, around the late 4th to early 5th century AD. This zenpō-kōen-fun (a keyhole-shaped mound form combining a circular rear section with a rectangular front) served as the tomb of one or more gōzoku rulers of the Miyagi Plain region. Designated a National Historic Site, the monument survives as a significant example of Tōhoku's early monumental funerary architecture.
