Trematon Castle, a Norman motte-and-bailey fortification near Saltash in Cornwall, overlooks the Lynher River from a commanding position southeast of Trematon village. Likely built by Robert, Count of Mortain in the decades following the Norman Conquest, it was constructed atop the remains of an earlier Roman fort and served as the caput of the feudal barony of Trematon. The castle features a 12th-century keep in a style similar to the later Restormel Castle, exemplifying Norman military architecture.
