Tsakhats Kar Monastery is an Armenian monastery located in the Vayots Dzor Province, nestled along mountain foothills overlooking the Yeghegis River between the villages of Yeghegis and Horbategh, within walking distance of the fortress of Smbataberd. Built during the 10th century Bagratid kingdom, the monastery served as a medieval educational center where painting was studied; its name may derive from the Armenian term for "flowered stone." The complex comprises two groups of structures separated by 200 meters, with the western grouping constructed of rough-hewn basalt now half-ruined. Key structures include Surb Hovhannes church, built in 989, and Surb Karapet church, a 10th-century cupola hall type with sacristries in each of its four corners. Numerous khachkars and other ruins dot the site, which holds protected status as a cultural heritage monument in Armenia.
