Built in 1887 on the Schuylkill River near Philadelphia, the Turtle Rock Light is a brick lighthouse constructed by Frank Thurwanger at a cost of $2,663 to aid river traffic west of Boathouse Row. The structure exemplifies Colonial Revival architecture and features a distinctive hexagonal lantern room with an octagonal walkway. Originally powered by gas, the beacon was electrified in 1990 during a restoration that included repainting and new wooden balustrade and newel posts. It is a contributing property to the National Register of Historic Places.
