The Újpest Synagogue, a Moorish Revival structure completed in 1886, stands at 8 Berzeviczy Gergely Street in Budapest's fourth district. Designed by architects Lipót Baumhorn and Jakob Gartner, the building served the Neolog Jewish congregation and exemplifies the ornate architectural vocabulary favored for synagogues in late nineteenth-century Hungary, with its characteristic Moorish decorative vocabulary reflecting the broader European enthusiasm for Eastern and Islamic-inspired ornamentation during that period.
