The Vera and Laszlo Tisza House, built in 1960 in the remote northeastern reaches of Wellfleet, Massachusetts, stands within the Cape Cod National Seashore as a notable example of Modern architecture grafted onto regional tradition. Designed by Olav Hammarstrom, a protégé of Eero Saarinen, the T-shaped one-story residence features a central breezeway that frames views of surrounding woodlands throughout the home. The main block—41 by 25 feet, with a perpendicular 31 by 14 foot section at its north end—is topped with a flat asphalt roof that extends two feet beyond the walls and displays exposed rafters both inside and out. A recessed porch adorns the south side. Originally built for Vera and László Tisza, the house transferred to Vera following their 1963 divorce and was sold to the National Park Service in 1974, which has maintained it since. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
