Villa Francia
Lija, Malta

Visible from the street; the inside is private.
Villa Francia, an 18th-century palace in Lija, Malta, was built around 1757 by Francesco Preziosi as an ambitious expression of baroque grandeur designed to project power and prestige among the Maltese nobility. The considerable expense of its construction led Preziosi to financial ruin, forcing him to sell the property to settle debts with the Order of St. John. Subsequently acquired by the Francia family, from whom it takes its current name, the palace eventually passed to the Government of Malta and now serves as the official residence of the Prime Minister. Designated Grade 1 heritage status, the building stands as a significant example of 18th-century Maltese palatial architecture, located on Preziosi Street, named after the palace's original appellation.
