Palazzo Ferreria, officially Palazzo Buttiġieġ-Francia, stands near the entrance of Valletta, Malta's capital, as a striking example of late-19th-century Venetian Gothic architecture. Designed by Giuseppe Bonavia and completed in 1876, the limestone palace employs an inventive architectural strategy: its Italian-inspired design is distinctly localized through the addition of traditional timber balconies characteristic of Maltese building traditions. Protected as a Grade 2 national monument, the palace represents a thoughtful synthesis of imported architectural style and indigenous craftsmanship.
