Victoria Gate is the principal entrance to Valletta, Malta, and the sole surviving fortified gate within the city's historic defenses. Designed by architect Emanuele Luigi Galizia and erected by the British in 1885, this Victorian-era structure replaced the 16th-century Del Monte Gate, standing between Marina Curtain and St. Barbara Bastion. Named in honor of Queen Victoria, it originally served as the main portal from the bustling Grand Harbour area. While other fortified gates were demolished throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Victoria Gate endured as a distinctive architectural remnant, making it architecturally unique within Valletta's fortifications until the modern City Gate was constructed in 2014.
