Villa Louis, an Italianate mansion designed by E. Townsend Mix and completed in 1871, stands on St. Feriole Island in Prairie du Chien, southwestern Wisconsin. Built as the estate of the prominent H. Louis Dousman family—descendants of a fur trader and entrepreneur—the villa and its grounds have been restored to reflect their appearance during the late nineteenth century. Now operated as a historical museum by the Wisconsin Historical Society, the property is designated a National Historic Landmark and listed in both the National Register of Historic Places and the Wisconsin State Register of Historic Places.
