The Wahrenberger House stands two blocks from the Texas Capitol on Austin's West 14th Street, a Beaux-Arts and Neoclassical residence erected between 1867 and 1868 by builder Friedrich Huster. Originally sold to Charles Klein upon completion, the house gained its name when Klein deeded it to his daughter Caroline Wahrenberger in 1882. For over a century, the residence served as a family home to successive generations of the Klein–Wahrenberger clan and housed two German-American schools within its walls. During its time as a boarding house, the property lodged notable tenants including future Texas Governor Pat Morris Neff and Congressman Sam Rayburn. Recognized as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1972, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
