Located at 138–142 Broad Street in Summit, New Jersey, Wallace Chapel AME Zion Church stands as the second Black church established in the city. The congregation was organized in 1923 and initially met at the local YMCA before acquiring a small house on the site in 1928. The current Colonial Revival church building was completed in 1937, replacing the earlier modest structure, which now serves as a parsonage and community house. The church achieved national recognition when it was listed on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places in 2007, followed by designation as a Historical Landmark of The AME Zion Church in 2008. The congregation's early growth was shepherded by Rev. Florence Spearing Randolph, a former suffragette and activist appointed in 1925, who led the church until her retirement in 1946.
