Mount Zion Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas, is a buff brick structure completed in 1926 for an African-American congregation established half a century earlier. The building exemplifies Prairie School architecture through modest exterior features including a three-part facade articulated by brick pilasters and a trio of centered entrances above a raised basement. Its true distinction lies in the lavishness of the interior, where a pressed-metal ceiling, an elaborate central copper light fixture, and banks of stained glass windows create a richly decorated worship space. The church was recognized for its architectural and historical significance when it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
