Waveland State Historic Site in Lexington, Kentucky preserves a Greek Revival mansion and 10 acres operated by the Kentucky state park system. Built in the nineteenth century as the home of planter Joseph Bryan and his family, the estate reflects the region's early settlement history—Bryan's grandfather William had migrated westward with Daniel Boone through the Cumberland Gap. The plantation produced tobacco and hemp as its primary crops while Bryan also established a thoroughbred horse-breeding operation. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the site acknowledges its complex past as a slaveholding plantation while presenting the architectural and agricultural heritage of early Kentucky.
