The West End Historic District in Waxahachie, Texas encompasses 77 acres of late-nineteenth-century residential and civic architecture, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. Centered on seven blocks of West Main Street and four blocks of West Jefferson Street, the district showcases Classical Revival and Queen Anne styles characteristic of the era. Notable structures include the Dunlap-Simpson House (c. 1891), a 2½-story Classical Revival residence with Queen Anne detailing and a distinctive three-story tower, built by Connecticut contractor Dennis Mahoney for Judge Oscar E. Dunlap; the Sims Library and Lyceum, a Classical Revival design by architect S. Weymes Smith; and the F. Lee Hawkins House, a Victorian L-plan enhanced by a formal two-story portico with massive Corinthian-capped columns. The district also contains the Harrison House with its Mission-style parapet, the First Presbyterian Church, and several other well-preserved residences that together reflect the architectural ambitions of Waxahachie's prosperous late-nineteenth-century citizens.
