Wewelsburg is a Renaissance castle built in 1603 in the village of Wewelsburg, a district of Büren in Westphalia's Paderborn district in northeastern North Rhine-Westphalia. The structure features a distinctive triangular layout with three round towers connected by massive walls. After 1934, the castle was commandeered by the SS under Heinrich Himmler, who envisioned expanding it into a central SS cult-site and, from 1941 onward, into a grandiose "Centre of the World." Following World War II, the castle reopened in 1950 as a museum and youth hostel—one of Germany's largest. Today it houses the Historical Museum of the Prince Bishopric of Paderborn and the Wewelsburg 1933–1945 Memorial Museum, serving as both a cultural institution and architectural heritage monument.
