Built in 1818 in Richmond's Court End neighborhood, this Greek Revival and Renaissance Revival residence served as the executive mansion of Confederate President Jefferson Davis from August 1861 until the Confederacy's collapse in April 1865. Designed by architect Robert Mills, the house is now part of Virginia Commonwealth University's campus. Long preserved by the Confederate Memorial Literary Society following its acquisition in 1894, the building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960 and is now operated by the American Civil War Museum, formed from a 2014 merger of the Museum of the Confederacy with the American Civil War Center.
