The William H. Phipps House, built in Hudson, Wisconsin in 1884, exemplifies the exuberant Queen Anne style at its most ornamental. Clad in clapboard, the residence showcases the hallmarks of the period: an octagonal tower, multiple verandahs and balconies, and elaborate exterior ornamentation featuring octagonal shingles and applied wood details. The interior matches the architectural ambition with carved hardwoods throughout, often worked with meticulous detail. Recognized as one of Hudson's finest homes and a showpiece of the style in the St. Croix Valley, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987 and now operates as a bed and breakfast.
