Built in 1835 in Bloomington, Indiana, the Wylie House exemplifies Federal and Georgian architectural styles. The residence was home to Andrew Wylie, the first president of Indiana University, until his death in 1851. Following the death of Andrew's widow Margaret in 1859, the house passed to Theophilus Adam Wylie, a professor at Indiana University and half-cousin to Andrew, whose family occupied it until his widow's death in 1913. Today the structure serves as a historic house museum operated by Indiana University Libraries, preserving the domestic history of these families connected to the university's early years. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
