Completed in September 2008 in Buenos Aires's Puerto Madero district, the YPF Tower is a 160-metre, 44-storey corporate headquarters designed by renowned architect César Pelli. Built as the seat of YPF, Argentina's national oil company, the postmodern structure cost an estimated US$134 million to construct and was, upon completion, Argentina's tallest office building and third-tallest structure overall. Located at the corner of Macacha Güemes and Juana Manso streets, the tower gained political prominence in May 2012 when it was illuminated in the colours of the Argentine flag following the government's nationalization of YPF under President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
