Rising 575 feet at the southern end of Times Square, 5 Times Square is a 38-story office skyscraper designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and developed by Boston Properties on the western sidewalk of Seventh Avenue between 41st and 42nd Street. Completed in 2002, the building features a glass curtain wall facade with large billboards on its lower stories, part of the larger 42nd Street Development Project. Its steel superstructure employs wind-resisting lattice beams and a mechanical core, while the foundation combines shallow footings and caissons to accommodate New York City Subway tunnels beneath the site. The building contains 1.1 million square feet of space, primarily office use, with retail on the lowest three stories and a subway station entrance. Originally developed to house Ernst & Young as the anchor tenant, the building has since changed ownership multiple times and faced planned conversion to residential use beginning in 2026.
