The Advent Christian Church in John Day, Oregon, is a Carpenter Gothic structure completed in 1900, built by lay minister and carpenter Samuel Bayliss Hope and members of the local congregation beginning in 1898. The church marries the Gothic Revival form favored for ecclesiastical buildings of the period with Victorian-era ornamentation, particularly around the entry and steeple. Hope himself executed most of the decorative woodwork, both inside and out, including what is believed to be Oregon's most extensive late example of manually planed moldings in a historic building. The congregation ceased active worship by the 1920s, and after decades of use by other denominations, the structure was preserved beginning in 1987 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
