The Monastery of Saint Sergios of Medikion, also known as the Medikion Monastery and later the Monastery of the Holy Fathers, stands as a ruined Byzantine complex near modern Tirilye in Turkey. Built in 780, the monastery was founded by Nikephoros, who restored a ruined church dedicated to Saint Michael and established the monastic community around it. The monastery gained renown for the role its founders played in opposing Byzantine Iconoclasm; Nikephoros himself participated in the Second Council of Nicaea in 787, while his successor and pupil Niketas was celebrated as an iconodule Confessor persecuted under Leo V's second Iconoclasm. Today, only the perimeter wall remains, a fortress-like structure with high walls, a solid door, and a heavily damaged inscription dated 1801 above the entrance. The monastery was revered by the local Orthodox population until the Greco-Turkish population exchange in 1922, after which it was demolished in 1923.
